The hot water pressure cleaning
equipment we use for exterior cleaning can be used to
remove masonry paint when used in conjunction with a solvent.
|
We are asked to remove paint
from houses to which it has been applied over the
years, covering up attractive brickwork which the
owner wishes to expose.
Returning a masonry building
to it's intended state by removing the paint adds
significant value to a property.

Another motivation for removing
paint is that the common use of inappropriate paints in
the past can prevent masonry walls from breathing. This
can lead to "blowing" of the stone-work, allowing
damp and frost to cause damage.
The process involves applying solvent
onto the painted surface and then, after a short wait,
washing the solvent and the paint away with the hot water
pressure washer The paint comes away in layers and the
process is repeated until the wall is clean.
The technique can be carried out
on any masonry surface. Below we see the results of removing
years' of layers of paint from 50 metres of limestone
pub signage.
A different solvent is used depending
on whether the paint is water based, as most masonry paint
is, or oil based.
The oil based solvents we use
can also remove graffiti and we also offer this as a service.
